How to Stay Healthy During the Holidays

The holiday season is upon us. It’s the season of cookies, parties, and fruit cake. Here’s some tips to keep you motivated and on track during this season of temptation!

  1. Make Smart Food Choices

You’ll have many obligations over the holiday season, let’s not make overeating at every single party one of them.

If you’re getting ready for your next holiday gathering, try eating some healthy food beforehand so you are less tempted (and hungry!) for those Christmas goodies.

Another way to avoid the temptation is to fill up your plate with as many vegetables that you can, then take smaller portions of the carbs and fats.

2. Stay Hydrated

We hate to be a Grinch, but drinking water is the healthy approach for holiday parties. It is recommended to drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water daily. Without that water daily, we often feel sluggish and hungry, which is not a good combination to have at those family gatherings.

You don’t have to take a hard pass on the spiked eggnog or holiday cosmos. Just drink smart! Alternate those alcoholic drinks with a cup of water each time, and you’re golden.

3. Get a Good Night’s Sleep

A restful night’s sleep doesn’t just feel fantastic, it also sets you up for success! Abundant sleep is essential for good health, a positive outlook, and a great mood – which is what you want for the holidays.

Everyone is busy around the holidays; the days are shorter, and the errand lists are longer. Don’t try to stay up later to get things done. If you had a restful night beforehand, you are more likely to complete that to-do list!

4. Keep Up Your Gym Routine

We are here for you, especially during the holiday season! Getting in that hour workout after those holiday gatherings will help increase your mood, and keep you motivated to stay healthy.

A modified or condensed workout is always better than a missed one. It will help you keep those unwanted pounds off during this season.

5. Don’t Wait Until January

A few slips in the road does not have to turn into a train wreck when it comes to eating well and staying active during the holidays. Get back on the straight and narrow sooner, not later.

It’s common to slip up on your healthy journey during the holidays. Don’t stop there, and don’t wait until Monday or January to start back up again! Get back on track right away. We will help you get back on track, sign up on the app and we will see you in class tonight!
