My name is Diane Howell, ACE Certified Personal Trainer, from Severn, MD. I was born and raised here in Anne Arundel County, playing sports my entire life including field hockey and softball. I loved the relationships that were built and the competition aspect, many life lessons were learned from playing organized sports. I took those lessons and in 2003 began a coaching career that has continued over the last 15 years in both high school and youth field hockey programs. In college, I majored in Early Childhood Education but had minor focuses in sports nutrition, health/wellness, and physical education.
Fast forward, I had given birth to my son in 2007 and daughter in 2011, I was less active than I had ever been in my entire life and I decided that I needed to do something about it. I joined a local gym and began working out, losing about 30lbs within six months. I was feeling great but my busy life as a full-time employee for AACPS, a high school field hockey coach, and a Mom started to allow me to make excuses not to workout anymore. Which brings me to Priority Health and Fitness, I started out as a client working out with my group fitness class 3 days a week. What started out as group fitness classes with complete strangers turned into group fitness classes with friends. We all held each other accountable, logged all of our food, and started chat threads in order to check-in with one another just in case anyone was struggling. I think that first cycle our group lost over 200lbs collectively over 8 weeks. It was empowering and exciting to have such success. I WAS HOOKED!
Shortly thereafter, I was asked if I had any interest in earning my personal training certification. It was a lot of work, a lot of content to recall, and now I consider it one of the most rewarding choices that I have ever made. I, like so many of you, love Priority Health and Fitness. It has become a part of my life and I consider every coach and client a family member. No other gym that I’ve belonged gives back to their clients the way that PHF does and that is what makes PHF stand out above all of the rest.
